Description

The manual tray wrapping machine wraps trays in food grade cling film and closes the wrap with heat on a hot plate. It measures 505 x 640 x 150 mm and takes film rolls of up to 500 mm. It is the quickest and cheapest way to present fresh product on a tray at the counter.

What wrapping protects, and what it does not

It is worth being clear that wrapping in film is not vacuum packing or modified atmosphere packing: the wrap protects against contact and handling, but it does not remove the oxygen and does not extend shelf life significantly. The hot plate and the work area should be cleaned daily, since carbonised fat residue is a contamination point.

What film width does it need?

It takes rolls of up to 500 mm in length. The particular width is chosen according to your usual tray size: film that is too narrow does not cover the sides properly and film that is too wide wastes material on every wrap. Both 30 and 45 cm formats are available.

Does it preserve product as well as vacuum packing?

No. Wrapping in film protects the product from handling and presents it well, but it leaves air inside and does not slow oxidation. To genuinely extend shelf life you need vacuum or modified atmosphere, with a chamber machine or a tray sealer.

Does it need a power supply?

Yes, for the hot plate that closes the film with heat; that plate is what distinguishes a wrapper from a simple roll holder. Consumption is low, as you would expect from a counter machine, and it plugs into a standard socket.

How much counter space does it take?

Its footprint is 505 x 640 mm and it is only 150 mm high, so it sits on the worktop without getting in the way and can go next to the scale or the cutting area. That low height is one of its advantages over bulkier packing equipment.

Will it work with any tray?

It works with the usual counter trays, in plastic or in moulded pulp, provided they fit on the working surface and the film can be folded under the base. With very tall or irregularly shaped trays the result is less tidy.
