This food grade cling film roll, 30 x 300, is the narrow format in our range of wrapping film for trays. At 30 cm wide it matches the small and medium trays of the daily counter, which is the majority of them in butchery, charcuterie and greengrocery.

What this film is used for

Getting the film width right is not a minor detail: with a roll that is too wide, material is wasted on every tray, and with one that is too narrow the film does not fold under the base and the wrap comes loose. Thirty centimetres is the comfortable width for the individual and single-portion tray, the format used most from day to day.

As is usual with food film, the format is expressed as reel width by metres of film on the roll.

Food contact materials and the conditions of use

Cling film is in direct contact with the product, so Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 on materials intended to come into contact with food applies, along with Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 specific to plastic materials and articles. Both set composition requirements, migration limits and the obligation to hold a declaration of compliance.

In daily practice that means respecting the film conditions of use: type of food, maximum temperature and behaviour with fatty foods, which is where migration is highest. Within the HACCP plan required by Regulation (EC) No 852/2004, control of packaging materials is usually documented alongside supplier control.

What does the 30 x 300 format mean?

The first figure is the width of the reel, 30 cm, and the second is the length of film on the roll in metres. Both matter: the width has to match your trays and the length determines how long the roll lasts.

Will it fit a tray wrapping machine?

Yes. The manual tray wrapper takes rolls of up to 500 mm, so a 30 cm roll goes in with room to spare. Choosing between 30 and 45 cm depends on the tray size you normally use, not on the machine.

Can I use it in a microwave or a freezer?

That depends on the conditions of use declared by the film manufacturer, which appear in the declaration of compliance. Not every film tolerates heat or contact with fatty food at raised temperature, so check before putting it to that use.

What is the difference from sealing film?

Wrapping film folds around the tray and is fixed by heat on the hot plate of the wrapper. The sealing film of a tray sealer is welded onto the rim of the tray and creates an airtight closure. They are different products and cannot be swapped.

How long does a roll last?

It depends entirely on tray size and the number of wraps per day. As a guide, a counter wrapping around a hundred small trays a day gets through considerably more film than most people estimate, so it is worth keeping a spare roll.
