Description

The 80 x 55 mm thermal paper roll is the wide size, made for cash registers with a built-in printer, electronic scales and larger ticket printers. It is high sensitivity, lint-free thermal paper, which gives a sharp image with better permanence.

When you need the 80 mm size

The 80 mm is the web width of the paper and it sets the width of the printed ticket. This is the 3 inch format, the usual one on cash registers with an integrated printer, larger point of sale terminals, industrial electronic scales and receipt-issuing equipment such as ATMs and toll machines.

The practical advantage of the wide format is that more characters fit on a line. An 80 mm ticket takes full item descriptions, aligned columns of quantity, price and amount, and header lines carrying your business details without breaking them in two. In a shop with long product names or long tickets, that is the difference between a document you read at a glance and one you decipher.

The 55 mm is the outside diameter of the roll, which decides whether it fits the compartment. Both figures have to work: the width against the head, the diameter against the space.

Lint-free paper, and the jams it prevents

Lint is the cellulose dust that comes off the edge of the roll as it unwinds. On ordinary paper that material ends up inside the feed mechanism and, above all, on the thermal head. The effect is gradual: white lines or pale patches on the ticket first, then feed jams, and finally wear on the head, which is the costly component of the printer.

Lint-free paper cuts that accumulation and noticeably spaces out cleaning and service calls. It shows up most on equipment that prints continuously, a shop register or an industrial dispatch scale, where the dust has all day to build up.

High sensitivity contributes from the other side: the coating reacts with less applied heat, so the print is sharper, the head runs cooler, and according to the manufacturer the image holds better in use.

What you receive

  • Thermal paper roll, 80 mm web width and 55 mm outside diameter.
  • High sensitivity, lint-free thermal paper.

Check both figures against your equipment before ordering: the width has to match the head, the diameter has to fit the compartment.

Frequently asked questions

Which equipment uses 80 mm rolls?

Mainly cash registers with a built-in printer, large format point of sale terminals, electronic scales that print a ticket, and receipt-issuing equipment such as ATMs and toll systems. It is the 3 inch format, the wider of the two commercial standards.

Can I use an 80 mm roll in a 57 mm printer?

No. The web width has to match the holder and the head. An 80 mm roll will not go into a compartment made for 57 mm, and trimming it is not a fix: the ragged edge sheds particles and causes jams and head wear.

What does lint-free mean?

That the cut and the composition of the paper minimise the cellulose dust released as it unwinds. That dust is what collects on the thermal head and in the feed mechanism, degrading print quality first and the life of the head afterwards.

How long does a thermal ticket stay readable?

Mostly it depends on storage. Thermal printing uses no ink, only a coating that reacts to heat, so heat, direct sunlight, rubbing and contact with soft plastics or solvents are what degrade it. Kept cool, dry and dark, it lasts far longer.

How is it different from ordinary paper?

Thermal paper carries a chemical coating that darkens when heat is applied, so the printer needs no ink, ribbon or toner. That is the advantage: fewer consumables and less maintenance. The trade-off is an image that is sensitive to heat and light over time.

Will it work in an industrial scale with a printer?

Yes, provided the equipment takes 80 mm width and up to 55 mm diameter. It is a common use of this size: weighing indicators with an integrated printer that issue weight tickets in dispatch normally work with the wide format.
