Description

The PD6 LED weight-only scale is a compact bench scale with a 6 kg capacity and 1 g division, a resolution of 6,000 divisions, an LED display and a 176 x 176 mm stainless steel pan. It is the logical choice when small quantities have to be weighed precisely: spices, additives, starters, bakery work and fine loose goods.

What this scale is used for

The PD6 is dimensioned the opposite way round to a floor scale: instead of high capacity with coarse resolution, it offers low capacity with fine resolution. Six kilos spread over 6,000 divisions give a 1 g step across the whole range, which is what is needed to dose curing salt in a sausage production room, weigh spices in a loose goods shop, prepare blends in a health food shop or adjust ingredients in bakery and patisserie.

The LED display is an underrated advantage: because it emits its own light it reads easily in poorly lit areas, a store, a production room with little daylight, a back-room corner, and from a distance, without depending on light falling at the right angle as an unbacklit LCD does.

The 176 x 176 mm stainless steel pan is proportionate to that use: enough for a bowl, a small tray or a bag, and contained enough not to take over the work bench. The housing is ABS, with overload protection, height-adjustable feet and a spirit level for setting it down properly, which is the most common cause of erratic readings on small scales.

  • Sausage production rooms: dosing curing salts and additives.
  • Loose goods shops: weighing spices and fine dry goods.
  • Health food shops: preparing blends.
  • Bakery and patisserie: adjusting ingredients by the gram.
  • Poorly lit work areas: an LED display readable from a distance.

Divisions, not capacity, decide how fine the reading is

The figure that matters on a small scale is not the maximum load but the number of divisions. Here the maker splits the capacity into 6,000 reading steps, so 6 kg over 6,000 divisions gives a 1 g step. The same 6,000 divisions on a 30 kg scale would give 5 g. That is why choosing the lowest capacity that covers your maximum weighing always buys the finest reading.

It is also the idea behind the verification scale interval e used in legal metrology: on a trade approved instrument, e is the value used to classify the scale and to express its maximum permissible errors, and it is not always the same as the division d shown on the display.

The PD6 is a weight-only scale: it shows the weight, without applying a price per kilo or issuing a ticket. Its ground is internal control, formulation, dosing, order preparation, waste. Where the weight does determine what a customer pays, the instrument has to be trade approved, carrying the CE and green M markings and its accuracy class, and subject to periodic reverification by an authorised body. The PD6 accepts an optional ENAC certificate, which is worth having where the weighing is documented as a record in a food safety plan.

Frequently asked questions

What does 6,000 divisions mean?

That the maker splits the total capacity into 6,000 reading steps. On the PD6, 6 kg over 6,000 divisions gives a 1 g step. The more divisions for a given capacity, the finer the reading, and the more useful the scale becomes on small weighings.

Is it suitable for dosing spices, salts and additives?

Yes, that is its natural use. A 1 g division allows small quantities to be set exactly, which is necessary when formulating marinades, brines, spice blends or correctors in a production room. The limit function helps by warning when a dose falls outside the intended range.

Can it be used inside a chiller?

No. The operating temperature of the PD6 LED runs from 0 C to +30 C, a range intended for a working room. For weighing inside a chiller or in rooms below zero you need equipment with a wider thermal range.

Why choose an LED display rather than LCD?

LED emits its own light, so it reads well in poorly lit surroundings and from a distance. An unbacklit LCD depends on ambient light and viewing angle. In back rooms, production rooms and stores with poor lighting, LED reduces reading errors.

What units does it weigh in, and what functions does it have?

It shows weight in kilograms, grams, pounds and ounces. It has tare, a limit function to warn of weighings outside range, and automatic power-off, which avoids leaving it switched on at the end of the day and extends the life of the equipment.

How big is the pan?

The pan is stainless steel and measures 176 x 176 mm. It is a compact format suited to bowls, small trays and bags, and it takes little space on the bench. Stainless steel allows cleaning with the products normally used in food handling.

Other weight-only scales

  • Baxtran INOX SS15 scale: 15 kg with 1 g division, stainless steel housing and pan and IP67, for areas cleaned with water.
  • DSN weight-only scale: up to 30 kg, a 290 x 230 mm pan, piece counting and IP44.
  • Baxtran BS-TRI scale: compact and robust for harsh environments, with IP64 protection.
  • DIM bench scale: IP65 with a rear display and battery, when the reading has to be seen from both sides.
