Description

The Baxtran BS-TRI bench scale is a compact, robust weight-only scale built for harsh environments: IP64 protection, a 230 x 190 mm stainless steel pan and a rechargeable internal battery. It is made in three capacities, 3 kg / 0.2 g, 6 kg / 0.5 g and 15 kg / 1 g, and EC verification is available as an option.

What this scale is used for

The BS-TRI is designed for the work station where an ordinary scale does not last: goods-in bays, damp production rooms, dusty stores, production kitchens. IP64 protects it against dust and against water splashed from any direction, which is the real form of attack in those places: not immersion, but spray, steam and wiping down with a damp cloth.

What makes it versatile is the range of capacities. The same scale exists in three, and the choice changes its use completely: the 3 kg with a 0.2 g division is a fine formulation scale for additives and spices; the 6 kg with 0.5 g is the middle ground for a production room; the 15 kg with 1 g covers goods-in and order picking. Take the lowest capacity that covers your maximum weighing, because that is the one that gives the finest reading.

The rechargeable internal battery and 9 Vdc supply through an AC adapter let it move around the site without depending on a socket nearby: weighing on the bay when the lorry arrives, checking a consignment in a transit chiller, running a spot check on the floor. The backlit LCD with 6 digits of 20 mm and 7 function indicator symbols reads well in poor light too.

  • Goods-in bays: checking consignments as they arrive.
  • Damp production rooms: IP64 against splashes and steam.
  • Formulation: 0.2 g resolution on the 3 kg range.
  • Order picking: 15 kg with 1 g for made-up orders.
  • Shared work stations: three keys, minimal training.

Optional EC verification: what it actually changes

Unlike most weight-only scales, the BS-TRI can be ordered with EC verification. That is a difference of substance, not of finish: a verified instrument is what the rules require when weight determines the amount of a commercial transaction, or serves as the basis for invoicing between businesses.

The green M marking and its accuracy class, and is subject afterwards to periodic reverification by an authorised body at the intervals set by the national authority, plus a further verification after any repair or after the seals have been broken.

If the scale is only going to be used for internal control, portioning, formulation, waste, you do not need the verification. If you are going to invoice by weight, you do. It is worth settling the configuration before the order goes in, because it cannot be added afterwards by adjustment.

Frequently asked questions

Which capacity should I choose: 3, 6 or 15 kg?

The practical rule is to take the lowest capacity that covers your maximum weighing, because that gives the finest division. The 3 kg reads to 0.2 g and suits formulation; the 6 kg reads to 0.5 g; the 15 kg reads to 1 g and fits goods-in and order picking.

What exactly does IP64 protect against?

The first digit, 6, means fully dust tight. The second, 4, means protection against water splashed from any direction. So it takes splashes, steam and wiping down with a damp cloth, but it is not built for a pressure jet or for immersion.

Can I use it to invoice a customer by weight?

Only if you order it with EC verification, which on the BS-TRI is an option. An unverified instrument is for internal control. Where weight determines the amount of a commercial transaction, the rules require an approved instrument subject to periodic reverification.

What is the optional dual display for?

It puts a second display facing the other side of the scale, so the reading is visible to whoever is not using the keypad: a customer, a driver checking a delivery or a second operator at the station. It is specified as an option when the scale is configured.

How long does the battery last and how is it powered?

The BS-TRI has a rechargeable internal battery and runs on 9 Vdc through an AC adapter. That allows work at points with no socket nearby, an unloading bay, a transit chiller, a mobile check on the floor, without running extension leads across walkways.

Is three keys enough to work with?

Yes, and it is deliberate. The three keys cover zero, tare and gross/net, which is what 99 per cent of control weighings use. A smaller keypad shortens training and cuts errors where several people rotate through the station during the day.
