What this scale is used for
When what you weigh is cases, large trays or whole batches, the limit of a conventional bench scale is not the capacity but the pan: if the goods overhang, the reading becomes unreliable and the handling awkward. The DSN pan measures 290 x 230 mm, considerably more than usual, and takes standard plastic cases, small gastronorm trays and sacks of loose goods without the load hanging over the edge.
It is made in three ranges, 6 kg / 0.2 g, 15 kg / 0.5 g and 30 kg / 1 g, so the scale can be matched to the real work. The 30 kg version is the one that justifies the format: it covers a case of fruit, a batch of parts or a consignment of cured sausage in a single weighing.
The 7-key pad is what separates it from a basic control scale. Besides zero, tare, gross and net, it gives direct access to piece counting and to the limit function without navigating menus. In a store where tasks alternate through the day, counting stock, checking a delivery, verifying that an order is within tolerance, having those functions one press away saves time every day.

Internal control weighing, and where the approval line falls
The DSN is a weight-only scale: it shows the weight, without calculating amounts or issuing a ticket. Its natural place is internal control in the store and in production, stocktaking, goods-in, dispatch, waste control, where the weight figure is used inside the business.
If the weight is going to determine an amount invoiced to a third party, a trade approved instrument is required instead: a non-automatic weighing instrument under Directive 2014/31/EU, carrying the CE marking, the green M marking and its accuracy class, and subject to periodic reverification by an authorised body at the intervals set by the national authority, plus a further verification after any repair or after the seals have been broken.
The DSN accepts an optional ENAC certificate, which is useful where the weight is recorded as evidence in a food safety management system under Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 or in a quality system.

What fits on a 290 x 230 mm pan?
It is a generous format for a bench scale: small plastic cases, trays, sacks of loose goods and batches of parts without the load overhanging. Avoiding overhang matters because weight unevenly spread on the pan is one of the usual causes of unstable readings.
How far does IP44 protect?
IP44 protects against solid bodies larger than 1 mm and against water splashed from any direction. It suits a store, a dispatch area or a dry production room, but not rooms cleaned with a hose: for those you need a higher IP rating.
How does piece counting work for stocktaking?
You weigh a known number of units so the scale works out the average weight of one piece, and from then on it converts any weight into a number of units. For store stocktaking that counts cases of screws, clips, containers or caps in seconds rather than one by one.
What do the 7 keys give over a basic keypad?
Direct access to functions that on simpler scales are buried in menus or absent: piece counting, the limit function and unit switching. Where tasks alternate through the day, that means fewer presses and fewer errors.
Will it work in a warm building?
Yes. Its operating temperature goes up to +40 C, which covers unconditioned buildings in summer and areas near heat-producing equipment. The lower limit is 0 C, so it is not intended for weighing inside a chiller.
How does it differ from the Baxtran BS-TRI?
