Description

The DIM bench scale is verified to 3,000 divisions, with IP65 protection, a 200 x 260 mm stainless steel pan, weight shown front and rear, and a battery good for up to 70 hours. It is made in four ranges, from 3 to 30 kg, and EC verification is available as an option.

What this scale is used for

The DIM answers one specific case: weighing where there is moisture, where there is not always a socket, and where more than one person has to see the reading. IP65 protection makes it dust tight and resistant to low pressure water jets, and the protective membrane between the housing and the stainless steel pan seals the joint through which liquid normally gets into a bench scale. That makes it suitable for production rooms, wash-down areas and wet handling stations.

The internal 6 V, 3.2 Ah rechargeable battery gives up to 70 hours of continuous use without backlight. That is several full shifts off the mains, so it can be used as a mobile scale: weighing on the loading bay, in a transit chiller, at a market or at a trade fair, and recharging at the end of the shift. Programmable auto power-off at 3, 5 or 15 minutes helps stretch that further.

  • Production rooms: weighing in a wet working area.
  • Goods in and out: checking deliveries with the reading visible to both parties.
  • Mobile use: markets, fairs and loading bays with no socket.
  • Wash-down areas: IP65 with a sealed pan joint.
  • Small weights: 0.5 g resolution on the 3 kg range.

Approved or non-approved: the choice changes what the scale can do

The DIM can be ordered with optional EC verification, and the decision has practical consequences beyond the paperwork: multi-tare is available on the non-approved versions, while the verified version works with simple tare. It is worth settling before ordering, depending on whether you weigh for internal control or to price a sale.

The rule behind it is straightforward. Where weight determines the amount of a commercial transaction, the instrument has to be trade approved: a non-automatic weighing instrument, carrying the CE marking, the green M marking and its accuracy class, and subject afterwards to periodic reverification by an authorised body at the intervals set by the national authority, plus a further verification after any repair or after the seals have been broken. A non-approved scale may weigh perfectly well and still not be usable to settle a price.

Frequently asked questions

What does verified to 3,000 divisions mean?

That the capacity of the scale is split into 3,000 reading steps recognised metrologically. On the 15 kg version, for example, that gives a 2 g division. It is the figure that sets how fine the instrument’s valid reading is, not simply a display specification.

Why is multi-tare only on the non-approved versions?

Multi-tare lets you chain several successive tares within one weighing. On instruments intended for commercial transactions that function is restricted, for traceability of the weight being charged, so the DIM offers it on the non-approved versions intended for internal control.

What is the rear display for?

It shows the same weight in 15 mm digits towards the side opposite the operator. That lets the customer, the driver or a colleague see the reading without moving round the scale, which avoids arguments when checking a delivery.

How long does the battery last?

The internal rechargeable battery is 6 V and 3.2 Ah, giving up to 70 hours of continuous use without backlight. That is several full shifts off the mains, and the programmable auto power-off at 3, 5 or 15 minutes helps make the most of it.

Can it be cleaned with water?

The DIM is rated IP65: dust tight and resistant to low pressure water jets. It also has a membrane between housing and stainless steel pan that seals the joint through which liquid usually gets in. It is not suitable for immersion or for high pressure cleaning.

Which range should I choose?

There are four: 3 kg with 0.5 g, 6 kg with 1 g, 15 kg with 2 g and 30 kg with 5 g. The usual advice is to take the lowest range that covers your normal maximum weighing, because it gives the finest reading within the same 3,000 divisions.
