What these pouches are used for
This is the size used when what goes into the pouch is no longer a portion or a single piece but a batch: several kilos of product, one large whole piece, or a grouping destined for dispatch. The 30 x 40 cm proportion is the most common one for that kind of work.

Traceability once the pack leaves your premises
Product packed in large formats usually leaves the establishment for another operator, which makes traceability a central requirement of the HACCP plan required by Regulation (EC) No 852/2004: it has to be possible to identify what was sent, to whom and when, and the label on the pouch is normally what carries that information.
The film complies with Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 and Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 on plastic materials in contact with food. If the pack reaches the final consumer as it is, labelling also has to meet Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011.

Frequently asked questions
How much product does it take?
Several kilos, depending on density and shape. The practical limit is not weight but geometry: the piece or the batch has to sit inside the pouch so the film can close without tension and the open end reaches the bar clean.
What machine is needed?
A chamber machine with at least 400 mm of chamber depth and a sealing bar of 300 mm or more. Floor-standing machines meet both requirements; compact benchtop models fall short on one of the two.
Do the packs stack well?
Yes, if they are loaded in a single layer and stacked sensibly. The risk in the chiller is that an edge on one pack presses against another and punctures it, which shows up as lost vacuum the following day.
Can it be used for frozen product?
Vacuum is a sound basis for freezing because it removes the air responsible for freezer burn. Check the temperature range the film allows in its declaration of compliance before committing the size to that use.
What is the difference from the 300 x 450 mm?
Five centimetres more depth on the 450, for pieces with a little more length. If your product fits comfortably in 400 mm there is no reason to go up: film spend per pack increases without adding anything.
