Description

Copeland Digital Scroll condensing units: digital modulation of cooling capacity

Copeland Digital Scroll Condensing Units feature Emerson/Copeland Digital Scroll technology, which digitally modulates compressor capacity between 10% and 100% of its rated output. Unlike the continuous modulation of an inverter, Digital Scroll technology cycles between full load and unloaded operation at fixed speed, achieving precise modulation without variable frequency drive electronics. This technology offers an excellent balance of efficiency, cost and reliability for centralised installations.

Technical specifications

  • Copeland Digital Scroll compressor with 10-100% capacity modulation
  • High-efficiency condenser with high-performance axial fans

FAQs

What is the difference between Digital Scroll and Inverter Scroll?

Both technologies modulate compressor capacity, but in different ways. Inverter Scroll varies the motor speed using variable frequency electronics. Digital Scroll keeps the motor at a fixed speed but alternates between full load and unloaded operation (loading/unloading the compressor via a modulation piston), achieving a variable average capacity. Digital Scroll is technically more robust (no high-frequency power electronics), although its modulation is not as continuous as a pure inverter. Copeland recommends Digital Scroll particularly for medium-capacity centralised installations.
