Description

The STP crane scale is a high-capacity wireless suspension scale, from 3 t to 30 t, with a cast iron and steel structure painted with orange epoxy. The weight is read on an ABS remote control with a five-digit, 30 mm red LED display, which receives the signal up to 100 metres away.

What it is for

The STP is fitted between the lifting element —overhead crane, hoist or jib— and the load, so it weighs what is already being moved. As it transmits the reading by radio up to 100 metres, the operator knows the weight from the cab or from a safe position, without standing under the suspended load.

Safety, approval and verification

The STP declares compliance with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, which is the applicable reference for a lifting accessory. Working with suspended loads requires respecting the working load limit of the complete assembly —crane, slings and hook—, not just that of the weighing equipment.

In metrological terms, if the weighing is going to be used to determine the amount of a commercial transaction, the instrument must be approved and verified in accordance with the Spanish Metrology Law 32/2014 and Royal Decree 244/2016, with periodic verification every two years by an authorised Control Body. For internal control of loads and processes, that obligation does not apply. Tell us the intended use and we will confirm the appropriate configuration.

Frequently asked questions

How much can the STP crane scale weigh?

The range covers 3 to 30 tonnes, and the specific capacity is chosen when configuring the order. It should be sized with a margin above the usual load, and you should check that the rest of the lifting assembly —crane, slings and shackles— takes the same weight, because the real limit is set by the weakest element.

From what distance can the weight be read?

The remote control receives the reading up to 100 metres from the crane scale, with a five-digit, 30 mm red LED display. That distance allows the operator to remain outside the danger zone of the suspended load and to check the weight from the crane cab or from the control station.

Can it be calibrated without removing the crane scale?

Yes. Both function control and calibration are carried out from the remote control, without opening the unit or lowering it from the lifting point. This is a practical advantage for high-capacity crane scales, whose removal means stopping the working line.

Does it run on battery or does it need to be plugged in?

It has internal rechargeable batteries, so it works autonomously hanging from the crane. Recharging is done with an AC/DC adapter of 100 to 240 Vac and 50-60 Hz, a range that accepts any mains supply. The permitted operating temperature ranges from 0 °C to 40 °C.

Can it add up several weighings?

Yes. It has accumulation and totalising: each weighing is added to a total that can be viewed when closing the consignment. This is common practice when a lorry is loaded in several crane lifts and you want to know the overall weight dispatched without noting down each lift by hand.

What weight units does it support?

It works in kilograms and pounds, selectable from the remote control. The pound option is useful when goods are shipped to markets that document weight in that unit, because it avoids manual conversions and the errors that usually come with them.
