Description

Monoblock refrigeration units for cold rooms without a plant room

Monoblock Refrigeration Units integrate all the components of the refrigeration system into a single compact block: compressor, condenser, evaporator and control panel. Unlike conventional split systems, the monoblock is installed directly on the wall or ceiling of the cold room, with no refrigerant connections on site, which radically simplifies installation and eliminates the risks associated with leaks in poorly made refrigerant circuits. It is the ideal solution for fast installations, shops under construction or replacing equipment in existing cold rooms.

Technical specifications

  • Complete system in a single block: compressor + condenser + evaporator integrated
  • No refrigerant connections on site: the circuit is factory-charged
  • Installation through the cold room wall or ceiling via refrigerant cable glands
  • Compatible with HFC, HFO and A2L refrigerants depending on model
  • Built-in electronic control with temperature display and defrost functions
  • Low temperature (LT) and medium temperature (MT) versions
  • Air-cooled condensing with natural or forced circulation

Advantages

✔ Fast installation: no refrigerant connections on site, no risk of leaks at joints
✔ Lower installation costs: no refrigeration technician needed to charge gas
✔ Compact and discreet: all equipment grouped at a single point
✔ Low maintenance: factory-sealed circuit, minimal on-site intervention
✔ Ideal for replacing equipment in existing cold rooms with minimal work
✔ Integrated control with automatic defrost and temperature alarm functions

Applications

Cold rooms in small shops and hospitality; replacement of obsolete equipment in existing cold rooms; building projects where completion time is critical; shops with little room for a plant room; rented premises where a fully self-contained, easily removable system is preferred.

Standards and compliance

Monoblock units comply with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and CE marking. Because the refrigerant circuit is factory-charged, refrigerant handling is only necessary in the event of a fault, and it must be carried out by a technician holding an F-Gas certificate under the F-Gas Regulation (EU) 517/2014. Installation of the unit in the cold room must comply with Regulation (EC) 852/2004 as regards food storage temperatures.

FAQs

How long does it take to install a monoblock unit?

A standard monoblock installation in an existing cold room can be completed in 2-4 hours by an experienced technician. Most of the time goes into drilling the opening in the wall or ceiling, fixing the unit and making the electrical connections. There is no waiting for gas charging or on-site leak testing (except for models that do require a refrigerant connection), so the cold room can be up and running the same day.

Does a monoblock work for both chilled and frozen storage?

Yes. There are medium temperature (MT) monoblock versions, suitable for chiller rooms between 0 °C and +8 °C, and low temperature (LT) versions for freezer rooms from -18 °C to -25 °C. It is essential to choose the right version for the cold room’s operating temperature and internal volume.

Can I install a monoblock myself if I am not a refrigeration technician?

The basic mechanical installation (fixing to the wall, drilling the opening) can be done by a general installer. However, the electrical connection must be made by an authorised electrician, and any work on the refrigerant circuit (in the event of a fault or recharge) must be carried out by a technician with an F-Gas certificate. Initial start-up does not require refrigerant handling on factory-sealed circuit models.
