STC Crane Scale

Description

The STC crane scale is an easy-to-handle suspension scale with die-cast aluminium housing, 35 mm backlit LCD display and a heavy-duty rotating hook with 360º swivel. It is operated by remote control up to 10 metres and runs on an internal 6 V / 10 Ah battery with 50 hours of battery life, with a second battery included.

What it is for

It is the everyday crane scale: robust enough to hang from an overhead rail or a hoist and easy enough to move from one station to another. The free 360º rotation prevents the load from being twisted when hooked on, and the water-resistant buttons allow it to be used in areas that are cleaned daily.

• Cutting room: weighing carcasses and half carcasses hanging from the rail, without lowering them onto a platform.
• Butcher’s shops: checking incoming hanging goods and comparing with the supplier’s delivery note.
• Food industry: weighing suspended cages, drums and containers while moving them.

Safety, approval and verification

The STC declares compliance with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and includes an overload alarm, which warns when the load exceeds the permitted value. Like any lifting accessory, it must be used within the maximum load of the assembly: crane or rail, slings, shackles and hook.

If the weighing is used to set the amount of a sale, the instrument must be approved and verified in accordance with the Spanish Metrology Law 32/2014 and Royal Decree 244/2016, with periodic verification every two years by an authorised Control Body and re-verification after a repair. For internal control of production and losses there is no such obligation; if you need a crane scale valid for legal metrology, the SMC model is the right choice.

We are a team of 35 people and have our own technical service: the same technicians who install the overhead rail or the cold room are the ones who commission and service the weighing equipment.

We offer commissioning and programming of the crane scale as a service —calibration, units, overload alarm value, standby and auto power-off times—, as well as periodic servicing and handling of verification with a Control Body where applicable.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the STC crane scale battery last?

The internal rechargeable battery is 6 V and 10 Ah, with a declared life of 50 hours. In addition, the unit is supplied with a second battery, so one can be charging while the other is working and the crane scale is never left idle in the middle of the day. An indicator on the display shows the remaining level.

What is the 360º rotating hook for?

It lets the load rotate freely without transmitting torsion to the body of the unit or to the lifting point. In practice it prevents the piece from being caught crosswise when hooked on and makes it easier to orient it to read the display or to put it in place, something common when working with carcasses on an overhead rail.

What is the x10 extended resolution function?

It shows the weight with ten times more detail than the normal reading, which helps to check the unit’s adjustment or to notice small differences during internal control. It is not a reading intended for commercial transactions, but a verification and diagnostic tool.

Does it warn if the load is excessive?

Yes. The STC has a weight overload alarm, which is triggered when the configured value is exceeded. It protects the unit itself and helps the operator, although it does not replace checking the maximum permissible load of the lifting assembly from which the crane scale hangs.

Can it be operated without going near the crane scale?

Yes. The remote control operates the functions, calibration and power off up to 10 metres away. That distance is enough to operate from the floor with the crane scale hanging from the rail or hoist, without having to lower it or stand under the load to press a key.

Does it withstand dust and the cleaning of the premises?

The housing is die-cast aluminium and the panel buttons are water-resistant; the data sheet declares it suitable for dusty environments. Even so, it is best to avoid direct pressure jets on the panel and to dry it after washing the workstation.
