Description

The 1625 mm bone band saw blade is made from laminated carbon steel with a special pearled tooth rated for double life. It fits saws whose band measures exactly 1625 mm, and it is built to pass through bone with a clean cut and no residue. Supplied in a box of four blades.

Band type: BONE (4 TPI). Tooth size: 6.35 mm (4 teeth per inch). A very balanced option for bone-in meat and for improving the look of the cut. Especially suited to machines with a linear speed below 20 m/s. Dimensions: 1,625 × 16 × 0.50 mm (length × width × thickness).

What a 1625 mm bone blade is used for

Bone is not cut so much as sheared. A tooth designed for meat strikes it and splinters it, while the pearled tooth passes through removing material in a controlled way. That difference shows in the finish on a chop and, above all, in the absence of splinters in the product.

  • Butcher’s shop: loin racks, rib racks and bone-in cuts.
  • Supermarket: daily chop cutting on the meat counter.
  • Preparation room: breaking down pieces that have not been boned.
  • Catering: portioning for roasts and stews.
  • Cutting room: separating bone-in pieces.

Safety when cutting bone

Cutting bone concentrates two risks. The first is the band breaking: a spent tooth working against hard material fatigues the steel, and the blade can snap while running. The second is pushing: when the band stops feeding, the operator tends to force the piece by hand, and that is the gesture behind most serious accidents on this equipment.

The practical rule that sums it all up is shorter: always use the pusher, and change the band as soon as it stops cutting on its own. A blade that has to be forced is no longer saving you money.

Frequently asked questions

Which band do I need: meat, bone or frozen?

It depends on what you cut and on your saw’s linear speed (it is in the manual; if you do not know it, call us on +34 967 219 649 with the make and model). The three versions, in this length:

  • MEAT (half-moon): 7 mm (half-moon) tooth. Recommended for fresh meat. Dimensions: 1,625 × 16 × 0.40 mm (length × width × thickness). See the 1,625 mm meat band.
  • BONE (4 TPI): 6.35 mm (4 teeth per inch) tooth. A very balanced option for bone-in meat and for improving the look of the cut. Especially suited to machines with a linear speed below 20 m/s. Dimensions: 1,625 × 16 × 0.50 mm (length × width × thickness). (this blade)
  • FROZEN (3 TPI): 8.46 mm (3 teeth per inch) tooth. Recommended for frozen product: a more aggressive cut and high production volume. Works especially well on machines with a linear speed above 20 m/s. Dimensions: 1,625 × 16 × 0.50 mm (length × width × thickness). Not in our range at 1,625 mm: see other lengths in Saw Blades.

Why does the bone splinter when I cut?

Because the tooth is spent or is the wrong type. A bone blade in good condition cuts without fragmenting; once splinters start appearing, the band has passed its working life and should be replaced before the problem reaches the product.

How long does a bone blade last against a meat one?

Less, inevitably: bone is abrasive and wears the tooth much faster. The pearled tooth is designed to offset exactly that, with double the life of a conventional tooth according to the manufacturer, but it will still not match a meat blade cutting meat.

Can I alternate the same band between meat and bone?

You can, but you lose on both sides: the bone blade does not give the fine finish you want when slicing, and using a meat blade on bone exhausts it in no time. Keeping both and swapping according to the day’s work is the cheaper option.

What maintenance does the saw itself need?

A full clean every day, a check on the guides, a check on band tension and an inspection of the guards. If you are breaking bands often the problem is usually not the blade: look at wheel alignment, the state of the guides and the working tension first.

How is the band fitted correctly?

With the machine isolated, respecting the tooth direction the manufacturer indicates and tensioning to the figure in the manual. A band fitted the wrong way round will not cut and a badly tensioned one wanders; both mistakes are common and both are avoided by following the manual.

How do I know what blade length my saw needs?

The number in the product name (1600, 1820, 2330…) is the blade length in millimetres, and it must match exactly the length specified by your saw’s manufacturer on the rating plate or in the manual. If you have no documentation, measure the old blade laid out along its full circumference. Bernad® can help you confirm the length your machine takes.

How many blades come in a box, and how should I store spares?

Four blades, folded to take up less space and travel protected. Store them in their box, somewhere dry and with nothing heavy on top: moisture rusts carbon steel and crushing deforms the blade. When unfolding them, wear gloves and leave space around you, because the blade springs back into shape suddenly.
