Description

The 1600 mm bone band saw blade is made from laminated carbon steel with a special pearled tooth rated for double life. It is the short length in the range, the one fitted to compact band saws, and it is built to pass through bone with a clean cut and no residue. Supplied in a box of four blades.

Band type: BONE (4 TPI). Tooth size: 6.35 mm (4 teeth per inch). A very balanced option for bone-in meat and for improving the look of the cut. Especially suited to machines with a linear speed below 20 m/s. Dimensions: 1,600 × 16 × 0.50 mm (length × width × thickness).

What a bone band saw blade is used for

Cutting bone is what punishes a blade hardest: the tissue is dense and abrasive and wears the teeth far faster than meat does. That is why bone-specific blades exist. Running a meat blade through bone gives a dirty, splintered cut and exhausts the blade in a fraction of its working life.

  • Butcher’s shop: chops, rib racks and bone-in cuts.
  • Small preparation room: bone-in breaking down on a compact saw.
  • Catering: portioning joints for roasting.
  • Supermarket: cutting loin racks on the meat counter.
  • Cutting rooms: working with pieces that have not been boned.

Clean cutting and bone splinters

A clean cut with no residue is not a sales line on a bone blade: it is a food safety requirement. An unsuitable or worn tooth splinters the bone instead of cutting it, and those fragments end up in the product.

The pearled tooth is designed for precisely that job: to shear through hard tissue rather than break it, with the added benefit of a longer working life.

What the supply includes

Box of four 1600 mm band saw blades for cutting bone.

The same length is available in a fresh meat version, and the range covers every length up to 3500 mm.

Frequently asked questions

Which band do I need: meat, bone or frozen?

It depends on what you cut and on your saw’s linear speed (it is in the manual; if you do not know it, call us on +34 967 219 649 with the make and model). The three versions, in this length:

  • MEAT (half-moon): 7 mm (half-moon) tooth. Recommended for fresh meat. Dimensions: 1,600 × 16 × 0.40 mm (length × width × thickness). See the 1,600 mm meat band.
  • BONE (4 TPI): 6.35 mm (4 teeth per inch) tooth. A very balanced option for bone-in meat and for improving the look of the cut. Especially suited to machines with a linear speed below 20 m/s. Dimensions: 1,600 × 16 × 0.50 mm (length × width × thickness). (this blade)
  • FROZEN (3 TPI): 8.46 mm (3 teeth per inch) tooth. Recommended for frozen product: a more aggressive cut and high production volume. Works especially well on machines with a linear speed above 20 m/s. Dimensions: 1,600 × 16 × 0.50 mm (length × width × thickness). Not in our range at 1,600 mm: see other lengths in Saw Blades.

Why do I need a bone-specific blade?

Because bone is abrasive and needs a tooth capable of shearing it without splintering. A meat blade loses its cut very quickly against bone and, while it is doing so, leaves fragments in the product. The bone version is built for that work and lasts accordingly.

What is a pearled tooth?

It is a tooth profile designed for cutting hard material, which the manufacturer rates as double life against a conventional tooth. That is what keeps the cut clean over more hours of work before the blade has to be replaced.

Can I use it for meat as well?

It will work, but it is not the right choice: the finish on fine slicing is better with the dedicated meat blade. A workshop doing both jobs normally keeps both versions and swaps according to the task, which costs less over a year than running one blade for everything.

How do I know the blade is finished?

When you have to push the piece for it to feed, when the cut wanders off line, or when the bone comes out splintered. Broken teeth are the clearest sign: in that state the band can break while running, which is the serious risk on this machine.

Does blade tension matter?

A great deal. An under-tensioned band wanders and cuts crooked; an over-tensioned one fatigues and eventually snaps. Setting the tension to the figure in your machine’s manual, and checking it as part of routine maintenance, is what makes a blade last its expected life.

How do I know what blade length my saw needs?

The number in the product name (1600, 1820, 2330…) is the blade length in millimetres, and it must match exactly the length specified by your saw’s manufacturer on the rating plate or in the manual. If you have no documentation, measure the old blade laid out along its full circumference. Bernad® can help you confirm the length your machine takes.

How many blades come in a box, and how should I store spares?

Four blades, folded to take up less space and travel protected. Store them in their box, somewhere dry and with nothing heavy on top: moisture rusts carbon steel and crushing deforms the blade. When unfolding them, wear gloves and leave space around you, because the blade springs back into shape suddenly.
