Description

The ZW bench scale is a complete single-cell instrument: stainless steel pan, tubular steel column and BR40 weighing indicator, ready to work out of the box. It comes in four ranges, from 6 kg with 0.5 g divisions to 60 kg with 5 g, is built to OIML Class III and includes counting, limit, accumulation and animal weighing functions.

What it is used for

The ZW is a general-purpose bench scale for a workbench, a goods-in bay or a production line, in the range where a platform plus separate indicator would be overkill. Because the column raises the display above the pan, the operator reads the weight without leaning over the load, which is the practical difference between this format and a flat platform.

  • Goods in and out: checking received cases and trays against the delivery note.
  • Production: weighing batches, ingredients and semi-finished product.
  • Warehouse: counting screws, fittings and small parts by weight.
  • Dispatch: accumulating package weights across an order.
  • Veterinary and livestock: weighing small animals that will not stay still.

The animal weighing filter, and what it does to an unstable load

A scale that reads to 0.5 g reacts to every movement on the pan. Put a live animal, a liquid that is still sloshing or a load that has just been set down on it and the display will not settle: the reading jumps and the operator ends up waiting or writing down whatever number happens to be showing.

The animal weighing filter solves this by averaging the signal over a period instead of following it instant by instant, then holding a single stable figure. It is the function that makes a precision scale usable with a puppy at the vet, a cat at a rescue centre, a bucket of liquid ingredient or a batch of loose product that keeps shifting.

Used with piece counting it is also what makes the ZW practical in a stores department: settle a sample, take the unit weight, and the scale converts weight into a count.

Frequently asked questions

What does OIML Class III mean here?

Class III is the accuracy class that covers ordinary commercial weighing: shops, workshops, goods-in bays. It sets how many verification divisions the instrument has and how much error is allowed at each load, and it is the class you see on almost every scale used in trade.

Can I use it to sell by weight to the public?

Only if you order it with EC verification., carrying the CE marking, the green M marking and its accuracy class. Without that verification the ZW is for internal control, not for selling.

The load cell has an R-60 C3 certificate. Is the scale approved then?

No, and this is worth being clear about. OIML R-60 is a test certificate for the load cell as a component: it says the cell is capable of working in an approved instrument. Approval applies to the complete instrument and is a separate step, which is what the optional EC verification covers.

Which capacity and division should I choose?

Choose the lowest capacity that comfortably covers your heaviest load, because the division falls with it. Weighing 2 kg batches on the 60 kg model gives you 5 g steps; on the 6 kg model the same batch reads to 0.5 g. Leave headroom for the container, not for loads you will never weigh.

What does IP54 on the indicator allow?

IP54 means protection against dust and against splashes from any direction. It handles a wipe-down and the odd splash, but it is not designed to be hosed. For areas washed down with water the equipment needs a higher rating, typically IP65 or above.

How long does the battery last between charges?

Over 90 hours of use, which covers more than a working week on most shifts. It is what lets the ZW work on a bench with no socket nearby, in a chiller or out on a loading dock, and keep working through a power cut.
