Description

The ZFD floor scale is a 90 x 60 cm, 600 kg platform scale with 4 load cells, a steel structure in chequer plate up to 5 mm thick, an IP66 ABS junction box and a lifting handle for assembly and maintenance. It sits on the floor and is built for heavy, bulky loads in a warehouse, on a loading dock or in a plant.

What it is used for

A floor scale is what you use when the load cannot reasonably be lifted onto a bench: drums, bins, crates, sacks, wheeled containers. The platform sits at floor level so the load is pushed or wheeled on rather than raised, and the 600 kg capacity covers most of what one person moves without a forklift.

  • Goods in: checking heavy deliveries against the delivery note.
  • Dispatch: weighing outgoing crates and bins before loading.
  • Production: weighing bins of raw material and semi-finished product.
  • Waste and by-products: recording what leaves the plant by weight.
  • Stock control: counting heavy items by weight instead of by hand.

Four load cells, and the corner adjustment that makes them agree

This is the real difference between a floor scale and a bench scale. A single-cell platform puts all the effort through one sensor in the centre, which works while the pan is small and the load is placed centrally. As soon as the surface grows, that arrangement stops being viable, because nobody centres a bin or a drum to the millimetre.

The ZFD carries 4 load cells, one at each corner, and a junction box that combines their signals so the weight reads correctly wherever the load rests on the platform. Getting that right depends on corner adjustment: the calibration step that equalises the response of the four cells so the same weight gives the same reading at any point of the deck. Done badly, the scale reads differently depending on where the load sits, and that is the most common fault on floor scales.

The junction box is where the four cell cables meet, which makes it the vulnerable point of the whole assembly. Here it is ABS rated IP66: dust tight and resistant to powerful water jets, so cleaning the area does not turn into a breakdown.

What the supply includes

  • 90 x 60 cm steel platform in chequer plate up to 5 mm, with 4 load cells and IP66 ABS junction box.
  • Lifting handle for assembly and maintenance.
  • Weighing indicator with 25.4 mm LED display in an IP54 ABS housing.
  • 9 V dc wall adaptor and internal rechargeable 6 V / 4 Ah battery.
  • RS232 output with PC and printer formats.

The ENAC certificate is optional. The scale is also made in a 100 x 100 cm version, also 600 kg.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use it to weigh goods I am going to invoice?

Not as supplied., an instrument whose weight determines the amount of a commercial transaction has to be trade approved, carrying the CE marking, the green M marking and its accuracy class. The ZFD as listed is intended for internal control: goods in, dispatch, stock, by-products. Tell us the intended use and we will confirm the right configuration.

What exactly is corner adjustment?

It is the calibration operation that equalises the four cells so a given weight reads the same at any point of the platform. It is done at the place where the scale will actually work, on its final floor, because the levelling of that floor is part of the result.

What is the x10 high resolution function for?

It temporarily multiplies the reading resolution by ten, so you can see more detail than usual for a one-off check. It is not for ordinary weighing but for verification and diagnosis, for example when you want to see whether a reading is drifting.

What is the difference between tare and manual preset tare?

Tare deducts the weight of the container that is on the scale at that moment. Manual preset tare lets you key in a known tare value, that of a standard pallet or cage, without having to put the empty container on the platform first. On a busy dock it saves a step every time.

Why chequer plate?

For grip and for stiffness. The raised pattern gives traction when you step on the deck or drag a load across it, which matters on a surface that gets wet, and it stiffens the plate against deformation when the load bears on a few points only, as pallet blocks do.

Which size should I choose, 90 x 60 or 100 x 100?

Both are 600 kg, so it comes down to the bulk of the load and the space you have. The 100 x 100 cm takes pallets and wide loads; the 90 x 60 cm takes up less room and suits corridors and walkways where the loads are long rather than wide.
