Description

The 1710 mm bone band saw blade is made from laminated carbon steel with a special pearled tooth rated for double life. It fits saws running a 1710 mm band and is prepared to pass through bone leaving a clean cut with no residue. Supplied in a box of four blades.

Band type: BONE (4 TPI). Tooth size: 6.35 mm (4 teeth per inch). A very balanced option for bone-in meat and for improving the look of the cut. Especially suited to machines with a linear speed below 20 m/s. Dimensions: 1,710 × 16 × 0.50 mm (length × width × thickness).

What a 1710 mm bone blade is used for

The chop is the product where band quality shows most: the bone is on view in the display and any splinter or ragged cut catches the customer’s eye immediately. A bone-specific blade in good condition is what separates a chop that sells at full price from one you end up discounting.

  • Butcher’s shop: pork, beef and lamb loin racks.
  • Preparation room: preparing rib racks and cut-up pieces.
  • Catering: cutting pieces for grilling and roasting.
  • Supermarket: meat sections doing their own cutting.
  • Cutting room: working with pieces that have not been boned.

Why bands break, and how to stop it

Bands break through fatigue in the steel, and there are three usual causes: excessive tension, worn guides that force the blade out of line, and simply working on with a band that is already spent. If new bands keep breaking on you, the problem is the machine, not the blade, and it is worth checking wheel alignment and guide condition before ordering more.

Tension should be set to what the manufacturer’s manual states, no more and no less. Too little and the cut wanders; too much and the steel fatigues and snaps early. Many machines carry an indicator so this can be set without guesswork.

What the supply includes

The same length is available in a version for fresh meat.

Frequently asked questions

Which band do I need: meat, bone or frozen?

It depends on what you cut and on your saw’s linear speed (it is in the manual; if you do not know it, call us on +34 967 219 649 with the make and model). The three versions, in this length:

  • MEAT (half-moon): 7 mm (half-moon) tooth. Recommended for fresh meat. Dimensions: 1,710 × 16 × 0.40 mm (length × width × thickness). See the 1,710 mm meat band.
  • BONE (4 TPI): 6.35 mm (4 teeth per inch) tooth. A very balanced option for bone-in meat and for improving the look of the cut. Especially suited to machines with a linear speed below 20 m/s. Dimensions: 1,710 × 16 × 0.50 mm (length × width × thickness). (this blade)
  • FROZEN (3 TPI): 8.46 mm (3 teeth per inch) tooth. Recommended for frozen product: a more aggressive cut and high production volume. Works especially well on machines with a linear speed above 20 m/s. Dimensions: 1,710 × 16 × 0.50 mm (length × width × thickness). Not in our range at 1,710 mm: see other lengths in Saw Blades.

Can I work with the upper guard removed?

It should never be done. The guard covers the stretch of band that plays no part in the cut and is the main protection against accidental contact or a blade breaking.

Why do bands break?

Steel fatigue, and the usual causes are three: too much tension, worn guides forcing the blade, and working on with a band that is already finished. Frequent breakages on new bands point at the machine.

How tight should the band be?

Exactly what the manufacturer’s manual specifies. Too little tension and the cut drifts; too much and the steel fatigues and breaks early. Many machines have an indicator so you can set it without estimating.

Do lamb and beef wear the band equally?

No. Beef bone is far denser and finishes the blade sooner. A workshop working mainly beef should budget for higher band consumption than one working lamb or pork.

What should I do if a splinter turns up in the product?

Withdraw the piece, check the condition of the band and record the incident in your food safety control plan. Splinters appearing means the tooth has reached the end of its life, or that the wrong blade is being used for the job.

How do I know what blade length my saw needs?

The number in the product name (1600, 1820, 2330…) is the blade length in millimetres, and it must match exactly the length specified by your saw’s manufacturer on the rating plate or in the manual. If you have no documentation, measure the old blade laid out along its full circumference. Bernad® can help you confirm the length your machine takes.

How many blades come in a box, and how should I store spares?

Four blades, folded to take up less space and travel protected. Store them in their box, somewhere dry and with nothing heavy on top: moisture rusts carbon steel and crushing deforms the blade. When unfolding them, wear gloves and leave space around you, because the blade springs back into shape suddenly.
