Description

The BVL weighing platform is a low-profile, four load cell floor scale, valid for legal metrology, with 5/7 mm checker plate and 3 mm folded-sheet steel structure. It has OIML R-60 C3 steel load cells with IP67 protection and is supplied with two folding access ramps.

What it is for

The low profile solves the age-old problem of a floor scale: getting the load onto it. Being lower than a conventional platform, the ramp slope is gentle and the pallet goes on with a pallet truck effortlessly, without having to build a pit or touch the warehouse floor.

Legal metrology and periodic verification

The BVL is valid for legal metrology and has load cells with an OIML R-60 class C3 test certificate, so it can be integrated into an approved instrument for uses in which the weight determines the amount of a transaction.

As with any scale, verification covers the installed assembly: platform plus indicator. The Spanish Metrology Law 32/2014 and Royal Decree 244/2016 require it to be verified before being put into service, renewed through periodic verification every two years by an authorised Control Body and re-verified after a repair that affects measurement. A relevant point for a mobile scale: every move requires re-levelling and checking the calibration at the new location.

Frequently asked questions

What real advantage does the low profile have?

It reduces the height that has to be overcome to get the load on. With a conventional platform, you either build a pit or use long, steep ramps. With a low profile, short ramps are enough for a manual pallet truck to take the pallet up without strain, and that makes a difference with every weighing of the day.

Are the ramps included?

Yes, the BVL is supplied with two folding access ramps. Being foldable, they can be put away when not in use, clearing the way in buildings with little space and preventing them from being a permanent obstacle next to the scale.

What does the load cells’ IP67 protection offer?

IP67 means complete dust-tightness and resistance to temporary immersion. It is a suitable rating for warehouses and loading docks, including floor sluicing, although it is not designed for systematic pressure washing. For that, a stainless steel platform with IP68 or IP69k load cells is advisable.

What is the side access to the junction box for?

It allows the junction box to be opened and the cabling inspected without lifting the platform or removing the top plate. On a low-profile scale, where the space under the deck is limited, that side access is what makes on-site maintenance feasible.

Can it be moved?

Yes. As it is installed above floor and does not require a pit, the BVL can be moved if the layout of the building changes. After moving, it must be re-levelled and the calibration checked; if the instrument was verified, you should check whether the verification needs to be repeated.

What is the difference between the BVL and the BVLS?

The material. The BVL is steel with a 5/7 mm checker plate; the BVLS uses a 5 mm smooth stainless steel plate, stainless structure and load cells that are also stainless. Both share the low profile, IP67 load cells, side access and the two folding ramps included.
