Description

The Optima BOB Blackchess is a floor scale with four IP66 nickel-plated steel load cells, checker top plate and black powder-coat finish, together with a weight-tare indicator with 40 mm LED display. It includes four metres of cable, 40-hour battery and RS232 output to PC.

It combines a robust floor platform with the largest-digit display in the Optima range. That pairing solves the classic problem of warehouse scales: the operator has the load in hand and the display is far away. With a 40 mm digit height, the weight can be read from where you are working.

Approval and metrological verification

The Optima BOB Blackchess is usually used for internal control: stocktaking, goods receiving, process control and checking packages before dispatch. For those uses, mandatory periodic metrological verification does not apply.

When the weight determines the amount of a commercial transaction, the Spanish Metrology Law 32/2014 and Royal Decree 244/2016 require an approved instrument, verified before being put into service and subject to periodic verification every two years by an authorised Control Body, as well as re-verification after a repair that affects measurement. In that case, a platform with OIML R-60 C3 certified load cells is advisable.

Frequently asked questions

What does powder coating offer compared with conventional paint?

Powder coating is applied dry and cured in an oven, giving a thicker, more uniform coat that is more resistant to rubbing and knocks than liquid paint. On a floor scale, where pallets constantly rub the edge of the platform, that difference shows in the life of the finish.

Why a 40 mm display on a floor scale?

Because the operator is usually standing next to the load and cannot go up to the display for each weighing. With 40 mm digits the figure can be read from several metres away and in low light, which is the normal situation in a warehouse or covered loading dock.

How long does the battery last?

The internal rechargeable battery is 6 V and 4 Ah, with a declared life of 40 hours. It allows the scale to be used at points without a nearby power socket and to remain operational during a power cut. Automatic sleep, programmable from 1 to 99 minutes, extends that charge.

Is IP66 protection sufficient?

IP66 means complete dust-tightness and resistance to powerful water jets, suitable for warehouses, workshops and covered loading docks, including floor sluicing. For rooms with systematic high-pressure washing, a stainless steel platform with IP68 or IP69k load cells is advisable.

What are the four metres of cable for?

To place the indicator at a protected, visible point, away from forklift traffic and the edge of the platform. As it comes with that length included, improvised splices are avoided, which are the most common cause of unstable readings on floor scales.

Does it need civil works?

No. It is installed above floor: it rests on the existing floor and is levelled with the adjustable feet. Access ramps are usually added for loading with a pallet truck. If you prefer to work flush with the floor without ramps, the alternative is a pit-mountable platform.
