Description

The AIS-W scale is a four load cell platform with indicator and stainless steel pan that adds wheels, pull handle and anti-slip rubber mat as standard. It is designed for weighing live animals and parcels in facilities where the scale has to be moved frequently.

What it is for

The wheels and handle turn a fixed platform into equipment that can be moved without help: tilt it, wheel it away and leave it ready at the new station. The anti-slip rubber on the pan prevents the animal from slipping, which is the main reason a weighing takes longer and ends up being inaccurate.

  • Mobile veterinary work: the same scale is moved between rooms or between farms.
  • Farm: growth monitoring, moving the unit between sheds and pens.
  • Parcels and dispatch: the scale is taken to where shipments are prepared, not the other way round.
  • Warehouse: counts and stocktakes going along the shelving with the scale alongside.
  • Food industry: weighing boxes and tubs on an easy-to-clean surface.

Approval and metrological verification

Its usual use —growth monitoring, checking packages, preparing shipments— is internal, and for those cases mandatory periodic metrological verification does not apply.

If the weight is involved in the amount of a commercial transaction, the Spanish Metrology Law 32/2014 and Royal Decree 244/2016 come into play: the instrument must be approved, verified before being put into service and subject to periodic verification every two years by an authorised Control Body. On a mobile scale it is also worth remembering that every move requires checking the levelling before weighing again.

Frequently asked questions

What is the anti-slip rubber for?

So that the animal stands securely and does not slide on the stainless steel. An animal that slips moves more, takes longer to settle and can be injured. The rubber also stops a box from sliding when set down, which is useful when the scale is used for parcels.

Can it weigh while resting on its wheels?

Weighing must be done with the unit seated and level on its feet, not on its wheels. The wheels and handle are for moving it between stations; once at the destination, check the levelling with the adjustable feet before starting to weigh.

What is the difference between the AIS-W and the AIS?

The AIS-W adds wheels, a pull handle and anti-slip rubber as standard. Otherwise they are equivalent: four aluminium load cells, varnished steel structure, stainless steel pan and IB10-S indicator with 25 mm LCD display.

Can it be thoroughly cleaned after each use?

The pan is stainless steel, suitable for common detergents and disinfectants. The indicator has IP54 protection and a waterproof keyboard, so it withstands splashes but not a direct pressure jet. The display should be cleaned with a damp cloth, not a hose.

How long does it last unplugged?

The 6 V, 1.3 Ah rechargeable battery offers about 100 hours with the backlight on and about 150 hours with it off. That is exactly what is needed on mobile equipment, which rarely has a power socket nearby where it is used.

Can it warn when a specific weight is reached?

Yes, with the limits function and checkweigher: a target weight is set with its margin and the unit warns with a visual signal and alarm. It is practical both for grading animals by weight band and for filling packages to a fixed weight in dispatch.
