Description

The BFN scale is a mobile scale on four 70 mm wheels —two fixed and two swivel with brake— with stainless steel pan, stove-enamelled tubular structure and weight-tare indicator with 40 mm LCD display. It is approved for 3,000 divisions OIML class III and is CE certified.

What it is for

Its reason for being is to take the scale to the work instead of taking the work to the scale. The two rear swivel wheels allow manoeuvring in narrow aisles and the brake immobilises it for weighing; the 40 mm digits, unusual on a mobile scale, can be read standing up and from a distance.

Functions: accumulation, totalising, piece counting, zeroing, four hold modes (off, moving animal, peak value, stable and stable with auto-cancel to zero), weight and piece control by limits with visual signal and alarm, three converter speeds, gross/net and tare.

Approval and metrological verification

The BFN is approved for 3,000 divisions OIML class III and has CE certification. Class III is the medium accuracy class, which corresponds to general trade and most food industry applications.

When the weight determines the amount of a transaction, the Spanish Metrology Law 32/2014 and Royal Decree 244/2016 require the instrument to be verified before being put into service, the periodic verification every two years to be renewed by an authorised Control Body and re-verification after a repair that affects measurement. On a mobile scale, bear in mind that every change of location requires checking the levelling before weighing.

Frequently asked questions

Can it weigh while moving?

No. The wheels are for moving it, but weighing must be done with the scale stationary and braked: the two rear wheels have brakes precisely to immobilise it. Before weighing, check that it rests firmly on the floor and that the reading starts from zero.

Why a 40 mm display on a scale with wheels?

Because a mobile scale is used standing up and often from some distance, while handling the load with both hands. With 40 mm digits the weight can be read without bending down or going closer, which is exactly what is lost when the display is small.

How long does the battery last?

It depends on what is switched on. With backlight and RS232 output active, about 80 hours; with both off, up to about 320 hours. The battery is 6 V and 4 Ah and is recharged with a 110 to 240 Vac adapter, valid on any mains supply.

What does up to 4 load cells of 350 ohms or 8 of 700 mean?

It is the indicator’s capacity to power load cells in parallel. The higher the resistance of each load cell, the more units the same display can drive without running short of current. In practice, it sets the largest platform size the unit supports.

Can I choose the working units?

Yes, but they are defined when placing the order: kilograms, tonnes or grams. The same applies to the range mode, single or multi-range. It is best to decide based on actual use, because changing it later involves reconfiguring the instrument.

What are the four hold modes for?

To fix unstable readings. Moving animal mode averages the signal from a load that moves; peak value mode retains the maximum; stable mode freezes the figure when it settles, with the option to return to zero when the weight is removed. The fourth mode switches the function off.
