Description

The GI400 LCD display with Li-ion battery is a weight indicator with 40 mm digits, IP65 protection, approval for 6,000 divisions OIML class III and IV and CE certification. Its 7.4 V, 2.6 Ah rechargeable lithium battery makes it self-contained, and its 2 RS232 outputs as standard allow it to be connected to a PC and a printer at the same time. Lithium battery: the indicator that does not depend on a socket

This is the reason for this model within the GI400 family. The internal rechargeable 7.4 V, 2.6 Ah Li-ion battery allows the display to be installed where there is no power socket or where running a power line would be expensive or incompatible with cleaning: an outdoor loading dock, a cold room, a checkpoint far from the electrical panel, a scale that is relocated depending on the season.

Compared with a conventional lead battery, lithium technology offers less weight, no memory effect and a more stable charge curve. The 100-240 Vac, 50-60 Hz AC/DC charger accepts any mains supply, including that of installations outside Spain.

The tilting wall bracket is included, so the display can be fixed to the wall and angled towards the point from which it is read, instead of being left at an awkward angle.

40 mm digits and OIML approval

The 40 mm digit height is the most visible feature: almost twice that of a conventional indicator. In a warehouse, loading dock or transit area, that difference means the weight can be read from several metres away and from the actual working position, without approaching the display for each weighing.

In metrological terms, the GI400 is approved for 6,000 divisions in OIML classes III and IV and has CE certification. Class III corresponds to general commercial use and class IV to applications of lower accuracy, so it covers both scales intended for transactions and industrial control equipment. It works in single range, multi-range or multi-interval mode, which allows the capacity to be divided into sections with different resolution.

It includes 2 RS232 outputs as standard, an unusual feature: with a single output you have to choose between printer or computer, whereas with two you can print the weighing ticket and send the data to the management system simultaneously. Its functions include checkweigher, totalising and piece counting.

Depending on the configuration, the housing is available in ABS or stainless steel, both with IP65 protection. The stainless steel version is mains powered at 230 Vac with a built-in 3.7 V internal battery.

Verification of the assembly

The GI400 has OIML approval and CE certification, but remember that verification applies to the platform-load cells-display assembly: an approved indicator mounted on an unverified platform does not produce an instrument suitable for commercial transactions.

In Spain, non-automatic weighing instruments used in commercial transactions must be verified and undergo periodic verification every two years by an authorised Control Body, plus verification after any repair or broken seal, in accordance with Metrology Law 32/2014 and Royal Decree 244/2016. Frequently asked questions

How long does the lithium battery last?

The data sheet specifies an internal rechargeable Li-ion battery of 7.4 V and 2.6 Ah. Actual battery life depends on backlight use and the number of weighings, so it is worth checking it against your work rate; ask us and we will advise you according to the application.

Why 40 mm digits?

To read the weight from a distance. In warehouses, loading docks and transit areas the operator is not always next to the display, and a digit twice as tall allows the reading to be checked from the working position, without walking to the display for each weighing.

What does approval for 6,000 divisions OIML class III and IV mean?

That the indicator has been tested to work with up to 6,000 verification intervals and fits accuracy classes III and IV. Class III corresponds to general commercial use; class IV to applications of lower accuracy. It is the prerequisite for integrating it into a legal metrology instrument.

What are two RS232 outputs for?

To connect two devices at the same time without switching. It is common to send the weight to a ticket printer through one output and to the management computer through the other, so that the printed receipt and the computer record are generated in the same operation.

Which housing should I choose, ABS or stainless steel?

Both have IP65 protection. ABS is the general option; stainless steel is chosen in the food industry, where the environment requires that finish and cleaning with detergents is daily. The stainless steel version is mains powered at 230 Vac.

Can the display be angled?

Yes. It includes a tilting wall bracket as standard, which allows the display to be fixed to the wall and angled towards the point from which it is usually read. It avoids reflections and awkward postures, and keeps the work surface clear.
