Description

The 1736 mm meat band saw blade is made from laminated carbon steel with a half-moon tooth (7 mm). It matches saws taking a 1736 mm band and gives a clean cut with no residue on fresh meat. Supplied in a box of four blades.

Band type: MEAT (half-moon). Tooth size: 7 mm (half-moon). Recommended for fresh meat. Dimensions: 1,736 × 16 × 0.40 mm (length × width × thickness).

What a 1736 mm meat blade is used for

This is one of three lengths in the range available in all three versions, meat, bone and frozen, which tells you it belongs to machines that are very common in the trade. The meat version is what goes on for slicing and portioning fresh product, where a smooth cut face is the whole point.

  • Butcher’s shop: daily slicing and portioning of fresh meat.
  • Preparation room: portioning boned pieces.
  • Delicatessen: cutting cured and medium-sized pieces.
  • Catering: preparing portions in the kitchen.
  • Supermarket: fresh sections cutting their own product.

Three versions for three materials

This length exists in three versions because the material being cut changes what is asked of the tooth entirely. The meat version puts the priority on cut finish through soft, wet product. The bone version is built to shear hard tissue without splintering it. The frozen version is for passing through product at low temperature, which behaves like a rigid, abrasive material.

Fitting the wrong version will not damage the machine, but it gives a poor result and exhausts the band very quickly. In a workshop that alternates tasks, the efficient approach is to keep the versions you actually use and swap according to the job, marking the application on each box so they do not get mixed up.

What the supply includes

Box of four 1736 mm band saw blades for cutting meat.

This length is also available in a bone version and in a frozen version.

Frequently asked questions

Which band do I need: meat, bone or frozen?

It depends on what you cut and on your saw’s linear speed (it is in the manual; if you do not know it, call us on +34 967 219 649 with the make and model). The three versions, in this length:

  • MEAT (half-moon): 7 mm (half-moon) tooth. Recommended for fresh meat. Dimensions: 1,736 × 16 × 0.40 mm (length × width × thickness). (this blade)
  • BONE (4 TPI): 6.35 mm (4 teeth per inch) tooth. A very balanced option for bone-in meat and for improving the look of the cut. Especially suited to machines with a linear speed below 20 m/s. Dimensions: 1,736 × 16 × 0.50 mm (length × width × thickness). See the 1,736 mm bone band.
  • FROZEN (3 TPI): 8.46 mm (3 teeth per inch) tooth. Recommended for frozen product: a more aggressive cut and high production volume. Works especially well on machines with a linear speed above 20 m/s. Dimensions: 1,736 × 16 × 0.50 mm (length × width × thickness). See the 1,736 mm frozen band.

How do I tell the three versions apart once they are out of the box?

By the tooth, though it is not always obvious at a glance. The practical answer is to leave the bands in their packaging until you fit them and mark the box with the application, so the frozen version never ends up on a fine slicing job.

Can I use the meat version if I run out of the bone one?

It is not the right choice: the meat version (half-moon) is designed for fresh meat. For bone-in meat, fit the bone version (4 TPI): with the meat band the bone will splinter and the band will be finished in no time.

Which band lasts longest?

The meat one, by a distance, because fresh product is the least demanding material. The bone and frozen versions work against hard material and are used up sooner, although the pearled tooth is designed to offset that.

Does product temperature make a difference?

Quite a lot. Well-chilled meat cuts better and cleaner than meat at room temperature, which tends to deform under the band. Working the product properly refrigerated improves the finish and is the right thing to do for food safety anyway.

When should I order a replacement?

Before you need it. A saw stopped for want of a band halts the whole workshop, so the sensible approach is always to keep at least one spare of the version you use most.

How do I know what blade length my saw needs?

The number in the product name (1600, 1820, 2330…) is the blade length in millimetres, and it must match exactly the length specified by your saw’s manufacturer on the rating plate or in the manual. If you have no documentation, measure the old blade laid out along its full circumference. Bernad® can help you confirm the length your machine takes.

How many blades come in a box, and how should I store spares?

Four blades, folded to take up less space and travel protected. Store them in their box, somewhere dry and with nothing heavy on top: moisture rusts carbon steel and crushing deforms the blade. When unfolding them, wear gloves and leave space around you, because the blade springs back into shape suddenly.
