Description

The STE crane scale is the lightweight model in the range: ABS housing, 21 mm LED display, remote control and internal rechargeable battery with level indication. It works in kilograms between 0 °C and +40 °C, is powered by a 100 to 240 Vac AC/DC adapter and complies with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.

What it is for

It covers moderate-use hanging weighing, where a cast housing hook is not worthwhile but you still want a unit with a rechargeable battery and remote control. Being made of ABS, it is lighter to handle and to position at the lifting point, which is appreciated when the hook is fitted and removed daily.

Safety, approval and verification

The STE declares compliance with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. As it is a unit that works with suspended loads, the maximum permissible load is set by the complete assembly: anchor point, slings, shackles and the hook itself. That limit should be checked before each type of weighing.

Its intended use is internal weight control. When the weighing determines the amount of a commercial transaction, the Spanish Metrology Law 32/2014 and Royal Decree 244/2016 require an approved and verified instrument, subject to periodic verification every two years by an authorised Control Body. In that case, the SMC crane scale is the model in the range declared valid for legal metrology.

Frequently asked questions

How does the STE differ from the other crane scales in the range?

It is the lightweight version: ABS housing instead of cast aluminium and a 21 mm LED display compared with the 30 or 35 mm of the higher models. It keeps the remote control and rechargeable battery, so it retains ease of use in a more manageable format.

Is the 21 mm display easy to read?

Yes, at short distances, which is its usage scenario: the operator works next to the hook. Being LED, it emits its own light and remains readable even if the area is poorly lit. For readings from several metres away, a larger display is advisable, such as the 30 mm of the STX or the 35 mm of the STC.

Does it have to be plugged in to work?

No. It has an internal rechargeable battery, with level indication on the display, allowing it to be used hanging without a cable. The AC/DC adapter accepts 100 to 240 Vac and 50 to 60 Hz, so it works on any mains supply. Auto-standby reduces consumption when the unit is idle.

What does the hold function provide on a hanging scale?

It freezes the weight on the display even if the load keeps swinging or is taken down. On a crane scale it is a basic function, because the piece rarely stays still: without hold you would have to wait for it to stabilise, with the resulting loss of time on each weighing.

Can it deduct the weight of the sack or accessory?

Yes, using tare: hang the empty item, press tare and the display returns to zero, so that afterwards only the product is shown. This is the usual way to weigh goods in nets, sacks or cages without having to subtract the container by hand.

Can it be used in a cold room?

The declared operating temperature is 0 °C to 40 °C, so it is intended for work in indoor rooms, bakeries and warehouses. For weighing inside a refrigerated room, the SMC crane scale is advisable, as its operating range starts at -10 °C.
