Description
Vacuum pouches 220 x 300 mm give two centimetres more width than the universal size: 22 x 30 cm, in 90 micron gauge and packs of 100. That difference looks minor, but it is what allows pieces with some thickness to be packed without the film having to work under tension.
What these pouches are used for
In a flat pouch, the thickness of the piece eats into the usable width: a product 5 cm deep takes up around 10 cm of the pouch width as the film closes around it. That is why a piece that on paper would fit in 200 mm can end up tight. A width of 220 mm solves that case without jumping to the 250 mm format.

What food contact compliance actually requires
Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 sets the general principle: materials in contact with food must not transfer their constituents in quantities that could endanger health, change the composition of the food or impair its organoleptic characteristics. Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 makes that specific for plastics, with individual migration limits.

Frequently asked questions
Is the jump from 200 to 220 mm worth it?
When the piece has thickness, yes. Two extra centimetres of width translate into one more centimetre of clearance per side, enough for the film not to pull tight and for the seal to come out clean. If the product is flat, it adds nothing.
How do I work out the width I need?
A practical rule: add roughly the height of the piece to its width, because the film has to wrap around it. A piece 15 cm wide and 5 cm high needs about 20 cm of pouch as a minimum, plus a safety margin on top.
Can I use it for product on a tray?
Trays can be vacuum packed, but use the progressive vacuum function so the tray does not deform. For tray packing proper, the specific answer is a tray sealer, which seals film onto the rim without compressing the pack.
What happens if the pouch is too tight?
The film works under tension, creases appear in the sealing area and the closure can fail hours later. Moving up to the next size is the better call: the extra cost per pouch is far lower than the cost of a batch that loses its vacuum.
Is this size available in a heavier gauge?
Reinforced gauge is stocked in two specific sizes: 200 x 300 mm and 350 x 550 mm. If your product needs more thickness at this measurement, the nearest alternative depends on what you are packing and is worth discussing first.
