Description
Vacuum pouches 400 x 600 mm are the largest size available in 90 micron gauge: 40 x 60 cm, in packs of 100. This is the format for whole large pieces and complete batches, where nothing else in the range reaches.
What these pouches are used for
Some products cannot be divided: a whole piece sold as such, a broken-down carcass section sent complete, a batch that has to reach the customer intact. For those cases 40 x 60 cm is the only option that allows vacuum packing without cutting the product down.

Here the product dictates the machine
This format can only be run on large chamber machines: the chamber has to accept 600 mm of depth and the sealing bar has to cover the 400 mm opening. It is the case where the product determines the machine rather than the other way round.
As a food contact material the pouch complies with Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 and Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 on plastics. In the HACCP plan under Regulation (EC) No 852/2004, packing very large pieces calls for particular attention to temperature: a bulky piece takes far longer to cool than a portion.

Frequently asked questions
Which machine takes this pouch?
Only chamber machines with at least 600 mm of chamber depth and a 400 mm sealing bar. It is the most demanding format in the range in terms of machine requirements, so verify that before ordering in quantity.
Is the vacuum cycle much slower?
There is more air volume to extract, so the cycle lengthens. With a high-capacity pump the difference is acceptable; with a small pump, packing in this format is impractical simply because of the time it takes.
Is 90 micron enough for such a large piece?
For product with no bone and no sharp edges, yes: the film has good mechanical strength. With pieces that have hard edges it is worth protecting those areas, because in a large pouch the weight puts more pressure on any weak point.
How do you handle a pack this size?
With two people if the weight calls for it, and always holding the body of the pack, never the seal. Set it down flat rather than dragging it across surfaces that could scratch or pierce the film.
Can it be used with gas injection?
Yes, if the machine has it. At this volume the gas consumed per pack is considerable, which is worth factoring into the cost per unit packed and into how long a cylinder lasts.
