MMX Floor Weighing Platform for Internal Use

Description

The MMX weighing platform is a four load cell floor scale for internal use, with black enamelled steel structure and 4.5 mm checker top plate. It has nickel-plated steel load cells with IP66 protection, an ABS junction box also rated IP66 and height-adjustable feet. Above-floor installation, without civil works.

What it is for

It is designed for in-house weighing: checking what comes in, what goes out and what is processed, without that weight being involved in the price of a sale. As it is not intended for legal metrology, it does without type approval and periodic verification, which simplifies the equipment and its maintenance.

Internal use: what it means and what it does not

The MMX is declared not valid for legal metrology. This means it can be used freely to control processes, stock or yields, but not to determine the amount of a sale. In Spain that boundary is set by Metrology Law 32/2014 and Royal Decree 244/2016, which reserve commercial use for approved and verified instruments.

In return, the MMX is not subject to periodic verification every two years by a Control Body, which eliminates that recurring cost. It is advisable to replace it with internal control: periodic checks with test weights confirming that the scale is still measuring correctly. If the weight is going to be involved in invoicing, the equivalent model valid for legal metrology is the MTX.

Frequently asked questions

What can I do with an internal-use scale?

Everything that does not involve setting the price of a transaction: stock control, tracking process yields, measuring losses, checking packages before dispatch or distributing raw materials between lines. That is most of the weighing done in an industrial building, and for that the MMX is perfectly valid.

Is it less accurate than a verified scale?

Not necessarily. The difference is administrative: an instrument valid for legal metrology has passed type approval and undergoes periodic verifications that document its accuracy. An internal-use scale can measure very well, but that accuracy is not certified to third parties.

Does it never need to be verified?

It is not subject to the two-yearly periodic verification of Royal Decree 244/2016, which only covers instruments for regulated use. However, it should be checked periodically with test weights: a floor scale takes knocks and its reading can drift without anyone noticing.

What are nickel-plated steel load cells?

They are steel load cells with a nickel coating that improves corrosion resistance compared with bare steel. With IP66 protection they are suitable for warehouses and workshops. For wet washing areas, stainless steel with IP68 or IP69k ratings is advisable.

Can it be moved?

Yes. As it is installed above floor it does not require a pit, so it can be relocated if the layout of the building changes. However, after each move it must be re-levelled with the adjustable feet and the calibration checked at the new location.

Which indicator goes with it?

Any indicator compatible with analogue load cells. For reading at a distance in an industrial building, large-digit displays are used, such as the 40 mm GI400; if you want a paper receipt, the GI410i PRINT includes a thermal printer. We carry out the pairing and calibration of the assembly.
