Description
The Godex ZX1200i labelling machine is the industrial unit in the ZX family: 254 mm/s print speed, 128 MB of Flash, 32 MB of SDRAM and a 3.2 inch touch screen. It prints in thermal transfer or direct thermal at 203 dpi, with a maximum print width of 104 mm.
What an industrial label printer is used for
Two figures separate it from the rest: the 254 mm/s, the highest speed in the range, and the 4,572 mm maximum print length — continuous labels of more than four and a half metres. That puts it in applications a desktop printer cannot cover.
- Production lines: continuous labelling at high throughput.
- Food processing: long labels carrying full ingredient and allergen lists.
- Despatch and pallets: large-format labels in volume.
- Automated warehouses: networked operation with three USB Host ports.
- Multi-station sites: templates held in the 128 MB of memory.

Minimum type size on a food label
That requirement covers the name of the food, the list of ingredients, the allergens, the net quantity and the dates.
At 203 dpi each dot measures roughly 0.125 mm, so a 1.2 mm character is resolved by about ten dots of height: enough, but with little margin. That is why it pays to run a printed sample and measure the actual x-height before signing off a template, especially if the design has been scaled down to fit a smaller format. Allergens must in addition be emphasised within the ingredient list by a change of typeface, style or background colour.

Frequently asked questions
What is a 4,572 mm print length for?
It allows very long continuous labels or uncut runs, needed for wrap-around labels, extensive ingredient lists, or continuous identification applications. It is a capability desktop printers generally do not offer.
How does it differ from the ZX420i?
The ZX1200i reaches 254 mm/s against 152 mm/s on the ZX420i and is built for continuous industrial duty. The ZX420i, in turn, prints up to 108 mm wide and keeps serial and parallel ports for older integrations.
Why three USB Host ports?
They let you connect a keyboard, a barcode scanner and external memory at the same time. At a standalone station that means scanning a product code and typing only the variable data, without going through a computer.
What labels does it take?
It prints up to 104 mm wide, in thermal transfer or direct thermal. The choice between them depends on the label’s working life: direct thermal for fast turnover, ribbon when it has to survive cold storage, moisture or prolonged rubbing.
Can it be operated without a computer?
The 3.2 inch touch screen lets you select templates, adjust settings and calibrate on the machine itself. With a keyboard or scanner on the USB Host port it can work standalone at the station.
