Description

The 1820 mm bone band saw blade is made from laminated carbon steel with a special pearled tooth rated for double life. It is supplied in a box of four folded blades, 1820 mm long, and passes through bone with a clean cut and no residue.

Band type: BONE (4 TPI). Tooth size: 6.35 mm (4 teeth per inch). A very balanced option for bone-in meat and for improving the look of the cut. Especially suited to machines with a linear speed below 20 m/s. Dimensions: 1,820 × 16 × 0.50 mm (length × width × thickness).

What an 1820 mm bone blade is used for

On a workshop saw, bone cutting is done in series: the whole loin rack prepared in one go, the full rib rack cut down at once. That continuous work, with the machine warm and the band under sustained load, is what really tests the tooth.

  • Meat preparation room: chops and rib racks by the batch.
  • Butcher’s shop: daily cutting of bone-in pieces.
  • Supermarket: meat sections preparing their own product.
  • Catering: cutting up pieces for the menu.
  • Cutting room: separating sections that have not been boned.

CE marking and the machine’s paperwork

Any band saw placed on the market has to carry CE marking, together with a declaration of conformity and an instruction manual in the language of the country of use. That documentation is not a purchasing formality: it is what evidences that the guards, the emergency stop and the other protective measures come from an assessed design.

Keep the manual somewhere you can reach it. It is where the band length, the correct tension and the maintenance instructions are set out, and those three figures are exactly what people end up guessing at when the paperwork has gone missing.

What the supply includes

Box containing 4 folded 1820 mm band saw blades for cutting bone.

This length is also available in a fresh meat version and in a frozen version.

Frequently asked questions

Which band do I need: meat, bone or frozen?

It depends on what you cut and on your saw’s linear speed (it is in the manual; if you do not know it, call us on +34 967 219 649 with the make and model). The three versions, in this length:

  • MEAT (half-moon): 7 mm (half-moon) tooth. Recommended for fresh meat. Dimensions: 1,820 × 16 × 0.40 mm (length × width × thickness). See the 1,820 mm meat band.
  • BONE (4 TPI): 6.35 mm (4 teeth per inch) tooth. A very balanced option for bone-in meat and for improving the look of the cut. Especially suited to machines with a linear speed below 20 m/s. Dimensions: 1,820 × 16 × 0.50 mm (length × width × thickness). (this blade)
  • FROZEN (3 TPI): 8.46 mm (3 teeth per inch) tooth. Recommended for frozen product: a more aggressive cut and high production volume. Works especially well on machines with a linear speed above 20 m/s. Dimensions: 1,820 × 16 × 0.50 mm (length × width × thickness). See the 1,820 mm frozen band.

Why are they supplied folded?

Because a 1.82 metre band takes up a great deal of room laid out flat. Folding it in three loops is the usual way of storing and shipping it without deforming it. Open it carefully: the blade tends to spring out and it keeps its full edge.

What documentation should my saw have?

Visible CE marking, a declaration of conformity and an instruction manual. It is worth keeping the manual accessible, because that is where the band length, correct tension and maintenance instructions are stated.

What if the machine predates CE marking?

Older equipment has to be brought up to the safety requirements that apply to work equipment in use. If you are unsure about the state of your saw, have it inspected and get a clear list of what is missing.

How often should the guides be checked?

Look at them at every clean, and thoroughly at periodic maintenance. Worn guides are the most frequent cause of a cut wandering off line and of new bands breaking early.

Can bone dust affect the motor?

It builds up where it should not and, with moisture, forms an abrasive paste. Cleaning inside the housings daily, as the manufacturer specifies, keeps that residue away from bearings and transmission.

How do I know what blade length my saw needs?

The number in the product name (1600, 1820, 2330…) is the blade length in millimetres, and it must match exactly the length specified by your saw’s manufacturer on the rating plate or in the manual. If you have no documentation, measure the old blade laid out along its full circumference. Bernad® can help you confirm the length your machine takes.
