Description

The TMS scale with 60 kg capacity and 45×35 cm pan is a column scale for yield control in the cutting room: stainless steel pan and column, IP65 aluminium load cell, piece counting and limit control with alarm. It weighs the piece, compares it with the target and alerts, without the operator having to interpret the figure. At Bernad® we have our own workshops and after-sales service to respond quickly to any issue.

Weighing to control, not just to know the weight

In a cutting room, weight is almost never an isolated figure: it is a yield indicator. How much comes out of each carcass, how much goes to trimmings, how much each batch weighs before going to packing. With a 60 kg capacity, this scale covers the pieces and tubs handled in that process, and its electronics are geared precisely to that use.

Weight and piece control by limits allows a minimum and maximum to be set, with a visual signal and alarm when the weighing goes outside the range. In butchering this serves two purposes: detecting batches that do not add up and, above all, keeping output consistent without depending on each operator remembering the target.

Accumulation with totalising closes the cycle: the pieces of a batch are weighed and the unit adds them up, so the yield of the day or batch is obtained without noting down loose figures on paper. With the RS232 output, that total can be printed or sent to the plant computer.

Construction designed for the processing room

Painted steel tubular structure with stainless steel pan and column. The aluminium load cell has IP65 protection, which resists dust and low-pressure water jets; the indicator is IP54, in an ABS housing. This is the right level for a refrigerated room with daily cleaning, as long as the hose is not aimed directly at the unit.

The 649 mm column places the display at eye level, which matters at a butchering station: the operator works standing up, with their hands full, and needs to read without changing posture. The four adjustable feet correct up to 13 mm of unevenness and the platform-display cable is 1,200 mm long, up to 1,370 mm depending on the model.

The temperature range is -10 ºC to +40 ºC, so it can work in a refrigerated room, not just at ambient temperature.

Use and regulations

An optional ENAC certificate is available, of interest when yield data is incorporated into a quality system or a documented self-control plan.

If the weight comes to determine the amount of a commercial transaction, Spanish regulations require a verified instrument, with periodic verification every two years by an authorised Control Body and additional verification after any repair or broken seal, in accordance with Metrology Law 32/2014 and Royal Decree 244/2016. You can find the details on our page about the verification of weighing instruments (in Spanish).

Frequently asked questions

Can it work inside a refrigerated room?

Yes. Its operating temperature ranges from -10 ºC to +40 ºC, covering the refrigerated cutting and handling rooms usual in the meat industry. However, watch out for condensation when moving the unit from cold to ambient temperature.

How does it help control butchering yield?

By combining two functions. The limits warn when a piece or batch falls outside the planned weight, and accumulation with totalising adds up the weighings of a batch to obtain the total without noting down loose figures. The result can be printed or sent to the computer.

What is the difference between tare and zero?

Zero resets the starting point of the empty scale, correcting small drifts. Tare deducts a known weight that is on the pan, usually the container or tub, so that the reading shows only the net contents.

Can the data be sent to the plant computer?

Yes, via the RS232 output, which sends data in PC or printer format. It is the usual way to integrate processing room weighings into a control sheet or management system without transcribing them by hand.

What maintenance does it need?

Basically keeping it level, checking that the pan rests freely without rubbing the structure, and calibrating periodically. The load cell is the sensitive part: knocks and overloads are the most common reason a scale starts giving odd readings.

Why is the indicator on a column and not on the table?

Because at a butchering station the work surface is occupied and the operator’s hands are full. The 649 mm column places the display at eye level, free from splashes and residue, and allows reading without letting go of the piece.
